He still had a good amount of money, having managed to secure it away before anyone could snatch it up. Most of that was held in reserve though, what he needed for common use was aquired through whatever jobs he could get. As much as possible, jobs that only lasted for some weeks, or a few months at most. Staying in one place for long resulted in habits and predictability, making it too easy for him to be found. Even those small jobs were risky enough as it was.
Cities sure had their disadvantages, but it was easier by far to get lost in a crowd there. Perhaps giving a slightly lesser chance at getting caught should one of those things decide to come after him, over a much less populated area. The matter of fewer witnesses... Jeffery had to admitt that he knew too damn little about the robots...whatever they were, but a city also gave the added advantage of easier access to means to get information through. As much as he rather not have another encounter, he couldn't help but to watch, to look for any sign of them. Any tiny clue through some source that might give him some information about them, what might be going on.
Due to that, he'd passed through a good number of cities since 2007, not to forget jobs. Till the jobs he'd gotten in Mission City recently. The much more temporary one in a small restaurant, a few hours in the morning and daytime. Working in an office for some company later in the day and during the evening. Neither particurlarly high-level, or challenging for that matter, but they weren't likely to call much unwanted attention to him either. Which was what he looked for.
Nights were for the most part spent walking to his appartment, by means of roundabout routes to avoid places where he might be too easily cornered or were too deserted for his liking. Other nights were spent sifting through information, as he found that he didn't care for sleep just then, or just walking. Fairly often past those areas who'd once been destroyed in the attack that had taken place that year and a half ago, no matter if there were few signs of it now. Common people forgot quickly, and available space left by torn down buildings had been snatched up for new projects soon enough.
At least this didn't seem to be one of those damned restless nights though. So after finishing work for the night, Jeffery started home. Well, maybe after a stop at that new takeaway place that had opened fairly recently. Pausing to take a look around as he exited the office building, noting the cars around, he started in that direction.
